“Ivy Tech Community College’s Evansville campus engaged Shawn Collins and the GiANT operating system as a communication and leadership initiative for its 10-member Chancellor’s Cabinet in 2022. The Cabinet includes the leaders of all the functional areas on campus. This year-long training system helped us discover our “voices” and how knowing yourself is important to hearing and leading others. We learned that while we efficiently lead areas of the college that keep it operating and focused on our students, we all lead from different voices that may be drawing others in, focused on others wellbeing, creativity abounding, or that are highly focused, but perhaps off-putting to others. We learned about balance and how important each of the five voices are to a peak operating team and how each of our voices when we are stressed have very distinct characteristics. Knowing ourselves to lead ourselves (and others) was a strong takeaway for the team. Ivy Tech Evansville has decided to continue to adopt this toolkit and embed it throughout the rest of the organization. In Fall of 2023 we launched GiANT training for the Extended Cabinet – directors and deans of all areas of the college – and it is nearly complete. Ivy Tech plans to offer it even further into the organization so that we can develop shared language and tools that will help us solidify our culture and build an even stronger team.
